The PZL W-3A Sokol is a twin-engine medium-size general-purpose helicopter designed and manufactured by Poland’s PZL; the name “Sokol” means “Falcon” in Polish. Its first flight was in November 1979, and mass production started in 1985. Poland changed many of the former Soviet helicopters owned and operated by its land, sea and air forces to the W-3 and its derivatives, and it is now used in many European countries by military, police and fire agencies.
