Description
This is an English-language book or magazine about aircraft and/or aircraft modeling.
Ginter Naval Fighters Vol. 77, the Curtiss XBTC-2 “eggbeater”. Designed to a requirement for a single airframe to replace the TBF Avenger torpedo bomber as well as the SB2C Helldiver, the type suffered from a low priority assignment by the Navy (which was more interested in the SC-1 floatplane) combined with Curtiss having to divert efforts to fix the ongoing problems with the SB2C. As a result, by the time the XBTC-2 flew, the Martin Mauler had already entered testing and the Douglas Skyraider was about to follow – two aircraft that started development much later and thus were able to incorporate lessons learned during the war, which the XBTC-2 was not able to do. Typical of Ginter books, this volume is full of detail photos and drawing which will be an invaluable reference to modelers. Softcover. All text is in English.
