About the aircraft
The Zero fighter was the main shipboard fighter of the Imperial Japanese Navy during the Second World War and the Pacific War, and continued to play an active role throughout the entire war. Jiro Horikoshi of Mitsubishi led the development of the aircraft, and the first type was officially adopted as the Type 11 in 1940.
Before the outbreak of the Pacific War, it was first used in the Sino-Japanese War on the Chinese mainland, where it demonstrated its performance. Later, the Type 21 appeared as a full-scale mass production model. It was equipped with the Sakae Type 12 engine. It produced 940 horsepower and had a maximum speed of 533 km/h. It was armed with two 20mm machine guns and two 7.7mm machine guns.
In addition to its excellent maneuverability due to the pursuit of aerodynamics through thorough weight reduction and the adoption of sunken head rivets, it boasted a cruising range of up to 3,000 km or more due to the adoption of drop tanks, etc., and was a powerful force in battles over the wide Pacific Ocean.
About the model
The new 1/72 airplane model series from Platz, which has been well received by airplane modelers, is also known as the “Full Action Series”, where each part of the model can be moved even after completion. The second model in the series is the Type 21 Zero, one of Japan’s most famous shipboard fighters, and it features a dark green-colored unit.
The decals are made by Cartograf of Italy, a company well known for their high quality.
The parts are made by F-Toys, which is known for its ease of assembly, as well as the first part of the Full Action series.
The Type 12’s star-shaped air-cooled engine is modeled in full detail in the nose cowl, and of course, the cockpit interior, legs, and leg storage areas are also well detailed. And the much-discussed movable parts after completion include the opening and closing of the windshield, movable ailerons, elevator, rudder, and other moving wings, as well as the legs, which can be moved in and out for a different look.
A total of two types of markings are provided, from the 263rd Naval Air Squadron and the 203rd Naval Air Squadron.
