The P-51 Mustang was a one-man long-range fighter, which served during the Second World War on the side of the Allies. It was one of the most successful types of fighter aircraft. It was mostly accompanied by bombers in the raids on Germany and helped the Allies gain air superiority. It was also deployed in the Pacific against Japan. It was the main fighter during the Korean War, but towards the end, it was replaced by jets. The Mustang remained in service with some air forces up until the early 1980s. There are many private owners who still fly them to this day. The Mustang was originally developed for the British Royal Air Force.
