The Airbus A-320 was built by the European consortium Airbus Industrie (Aerospatiale, British Aerospace, MBB and CASA) using the latest manufacturing methods and materials. The aircraft boasts state-of-the-art technology, notably electric flight controls. Its maiden flight took place on February 22, 1987, andcommercialservice began with an Air France flight on April 18, 1988. As of July 1989, twenty-five airlines had ordered a total 512 A-320s. Two quiet, low consumption CFM56-5 jets make the A-320 an economical and highly competitive aircraft.
