This is an injection-plastic aircraft model kit.
Japan’s aircraft technology was widely dismissed by the Allies prior to WWII. The Zero, the best fighter in the world at the beginning of the war, brought Allied pilots a very rude awakening. Another less- celebrated area of aviation that Japan dominated was flying boats. The Type 2 was easily the best flying boat of the war, and its predecessor, the Type 97, was a superb plane, too. An Aero Detail volume on the Type 2 is coming in March 2003 (English translation by Scott), and this kit of the Type 97 is bound to increase interest in this genre.
In the box, this appears to be a superb kit, with fine panel lines, and plenty of sharp part detail, particularly important in a small scale like this. Includes markings for six different planes.
