The Lockheed company’s four-turboprop ground passenger aircraft, the L-188 Electra, started operation in 1959. It was the first airplane equipped with the turboprop engine in the United States. The engine has 4 Allison 571 turboprops generating 3,570 horsepower, with a maximum speed of over 700 kilometers per hour. It was adopted by American Airlines, Eastern Airlines, KLM Netherlands Airlines, and many others, and traveled around the world sky. Due to the evolution of jet aircraft, production ended in 1961.
