Developed in the former Czech Republic and Slovakia, the Aero L-39 “Albatro” might be one of the most popular advanced trainer/light ground attack aircraft in the world; more than 2,800 L-39s have served with over 30 air forces around the world for more than 40 years. The Albatro took its first flight on 4 November, 1969.

The L-39A/ZO/M are all based on the L-39C. The type M is the upgraded version of the L-39C, which was put out by the Ukrainians, with the engine changed to the AI-25TLSh. The L-39ZO is the developed version of the L-39C for weapon training missions; they have one more pair of pylons under the wings. The L-39ZA is the trainer/light ground attack aircraft of the Albator, employing sturdier landing gear, a higher payload (total 1,290kg), and notably provisions for a GSh-23L 23mm twin-barrelled cannon attached in a conformal pod under the pilot’s compartment, having 150 rounds within the airframe.
