This is an injection-plastic aircraft model kit.
What started out as a failed attempt to produce a long-range fighter ended up giving birth to an effective night-fighter with a unique, angle-mounted gun that punished US bombers over Japan.
The National Air and Space Museum in the US has a perfectly-restored Gekko (which means “moonlight”) in the Garber preservation facility, and Tamiya’s extensive research of that airframe has paid-off, giving us an absolutely gorgeous kit. Wait until you see the cockpit and gun detail! Tamiya’s chief designer for this kit told me without modesty that he’s extremely proud of this model, and he has every right to be.
Canopy and gun access hatch can be built open or closed. Comes with bombs and drop tanks, too. Markings for two different aircraft.
