This is an injection-plastic jet aircraft model kit.
The Saab Vigen is a jet fighter originally developed, deployed and operated by Sweden in Scandinavia. Its development started in 1961 as a successor to the Draken. Its first flight was in 1967, and it was deployed in 1971. The body shape features canards on both sides of the cockpit, and the main wing is a delta wing. It’s equipped with one Pratt & Whitney JT8D-22 engine; while demonstrating a maximum speed of Mach 2.1, it also boasts STOL performance that enables takeoff and landing on short runways. In addition to being equipped with a 30mm Oerlikon KCA gun as a fixed armament, it could also operate the RB71 Skyflash short-range air-to-air missile and the AIM-120 AMRAAM medium-range air-to-air missile. The lineup includes basic types, the AJ37, training aircraft types, and reconnaissance aircraft types, with a total production of over 300. The JA37, which was the final production type, secured all-weather performance and was actively used as an interceptor. Waiting for the appearance of its successor, the Saab Gripen, the Vigen finished its role in 2005 and was retired.
This model kit features injection-plastic parts by Italeri, as well as a Japanese manual and packaging developed by Platz. The decals are different than those found in the Italeri kit. This model reproduces the JA37 final production type, with its unique style equipped with canards and the vertical stabilizer. The panel lines, landing gear, and cockpit are all delicately made. Decals by Cartograf for two versions are included: one with gray air superiority camouflage, and green camouflage. A painting mask for the canopy is also included. Order yours today!
