During the post-war years, the US military recognised a need for a cost-effective “high performance” aircraft capable of providing speed and maneuverability with efficient, cost-effective operation with gentle flight characteristics to train new pilots. The US military turned to Beechcraft Aviation to modify their successful Bonanza into a tandom seat military trainer. After extensive use by the USAF training command, the T-34 was also operated by the civilian arm of the US Air Force auxiliary the Civil Air Patrol for search and rescue and for liaison duties.
