From the manufacturer:
The American Douglas Aircraft Company developed this aircraft, which was built by Showa Hikoki and Nakajima Companies under license in Japan. They named it the L2D. These aircraft were used during World War II in different theaters of operation. Dur to its big payload, the L2D played an important role in suppling the outlying garrisons in the Pacific Islands and New Guinea. They also were used as headquarters aircraft. The L2D manufacturing lasted until the capitulation. Americans recognized it as an individual type of Japanese aircraft, and gave it the codename “Tabby.” In total, 487 machines were manufactured.
