The SBD Dauntless is a reconnaissance bomber developed by the American manufacturer Douglas, and operated by the U.S. military during World War II. The nickname Dauntless means “fearless, brave, patient, indomitable.” It was also built for the U.S. Army and entered service as the A-24 Banshee. The SBD-2 is an improved version of the SBD-1 (U.S. Marine Corps production model) for the U.S. Navy, with an increased fuel capacity.
