Description
This is an English-language book or magazine about aircraft and/or aircraft modeling.
Ginter Naval Fighters Vol. 30 – the Douglas XSB2D and BTD Destroyer. Developed as a successor to the SBD Dauntless, and as a possible replacement for the SB2C Helldiver, the XSB2D was very technically advanced for its time, but paid the price by being too complex, too expensive and too heavy by the time it finally flew in 1943. Also, by that time Navy thinking had changed and the two-seat scout bomber was passe, now the Navy wanted a single-seat “bomber-torpedo” aircraft. So, pull out the back seat, fair things over and the SB2D becomes the BTD-1! Still an overly complex design, Ed Heinemann finally convinced the Navy to let him build a completely different airplane to meet the requirement, and the AD Skyraider was born. Chock-full of detail photos and drawings which will make this an invaluable reference. Softcover. All text is in English.
